Job Description
Position Summary:
The Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality medical care and treatment to individuals in the residential care facility while following the Department of Mental Health procedures. This role involves overseeing the health and welfare of individuals, documenting medical care, and giving guidance to the Direct Support Professionals during shifts.
Essential Duties:
- Provide medical care and treatment to residents in accordance with nursing standards.
- Meets twice a month with agency psychiatrist at the agency for residents’ appointments.
- Works beside other departments to ensure emergency protocols for behavioral events are followed according to the plan.
- Must follow the guidelines set by the ISP and BSP in the person-centered plan for the individuals.
- Document all medical care and treatment accurately and in compliance with regulations.
- Assist Direct Support Professionals in providing comprehensive care to residents.
- Maintain infection control and bloodborne pathogen standards.
- Administer medications, ensure proper storage, and document administration.
- Input MARS into QuickMar and make changes as needed.
- Training Level 1 Medical Aide (L1MA) to new employees during orientation, recertify staff with L1MA. Train all in-home staff on RN delegations.
- Document resident visits, including health notes and changes in health status.
- Serve as a liaison with pharmacies and healthcare practitioners.
- Accompany residents to doctor’s appointments when necessary.
- Attend staff meetings and contribute to discussions.
- Perform monthly health assessment visits in the residential homes.
- Anticipate, analyze, diagnose, and resolve medical issues.
- Demonstrate initiative in learning and implementing new medical concepts and technologies.
- Handle sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
- Communicate effectively with residents and staff.
- Work collaboratively with others to ensure residents’ well-being.
- Complete required training and maintain certifications.
